The route

1. Binnenhof & Ridderzaal
   💡 The Binnenhof began as the hunting lodge of the Counts of Holland around 1230.
2. Mauritshuis
   💡 The Girl with a Pearl Earring wears no earring at all, most restorers believe — it is likely painted tin, and she is a "tronie", not a portrait.
3. Lange Voorhout & Escher in Het Paleis
   💡 The lime trees were first planted on Charles V's orders in 1536.
4. Paleis Noordeinde
   💡 The King's standard flies from the roof when he is working inside — check the flagpole.
5. Grote Kerk & Grote Markt quarter
   💡 Royal children including the current King's daughters were christened under this roof.
6. De Passage
   💡 It is the only remaining 19th-century shopping arcade in the Netherlands.
7. Het Plein
   💡 The statue of William of Orange (1848) points his finger at the Binnenhof — some say in warning.
8. Hofvijver & Het Torentje
   💡 The Hofvijver island, the "Eilandje", once held the counts' herb garden.
